A young person is anyone under 18 years of age. This is a legal definition in the UK.
Our club has a Children & Young Persons Policy. Adherence to Club Policy is mandatory and those adult members nominated as legal guardians will have signed to confirm they have read the Club policy and shall comply with all conditions pertaining to young persons shooting or attending as guests.
The Club has DBS certified trainers who will be allocated to young persons however the Club still requires supervision by the parent or legal guardian at all times. Children and young persons are always to be supervised ‘eyes-on’ at all times by their appointed legal guardian and it is never acceptable for another Club member to act in this regard in their stead unless in a clear emergency situation requiring intervention to protect their or others safety.
Children and young persons are prohibited by law from purchasing or possessing firearm ammunition. Their appropriate adult may purchase and issue as required on the firing point.
Under 14 years of age may only shoot airguns or, by agreement with the Club Secretary, small-bore .22 rimfire, specifically .22LR only under the supervision of their appointed legal guardian and a Club appointed Range Officer.
Under 18 years but over 14 years of age may shoot full-bore under the supervision of their appointed legal guardian and a Club appointed Range Officer.
Young persons must wear approved hearing and eye protection at all times when on the range.
