Range Access & Facilities
All NSSC ranges have limitations, some more than others. Herein is a broad review of the current access conditions. Specific access needs can be reviewed and adaptions will be considered where possible.
Longport:
- Our ‘home’ meeting space and indoor smallbore range
- Situated at the top of a Victorian three-story factory building and accessed by three flights of stairs
- Car parking is on-street only
- One unisex toilet currently without any adaptions
- A kitchen area with sink, hot & cold water (non-potable)
- Shooting can be accommodated from standing or sitting positions
- Lanes width is fixed by side-screens at one metre
- Open on two evenings weekly
- Supervised and managed social space
Wetley Rocks:
- Outdoor 50m range suitable for smallbore & carbine calibres
- Parking accessed through farm gates onto a gravel pull-in
- Situated in a rural area and accessed across an improved dirt path
- Range access is across a stream via a footbridge of limited width
- Lane width is fixed at approximately one metre when shooting from 50m
- No toilet or washing facilities on site or local to the range
- Shooting can be accommodated from standing and sitting positions only
- Range is open every day but is conditional on multiple attendance
- Supervision is by arrangement
Thorpe Range:
- A commercial 500yd range near Thorpe village on Staffordshire/Derbyshire border
- Full-bore high velocity target rifle shooting is the normal activity
- No toilet facilities on site, ad-hoc arrangements with the nearby hotel
- Good parking on the hotel carpark
- Access is through a meadow and along rough pasture to a butts gallery
- Access is approximately 360m from the carpark to the first firing point
- The butts gallery is 500m further along pastureland with (occasionally) livestock
- Firing points are raised and accessed by two steps
- Shooting is generally prone only however a shooting bench can be used by arrangement
- The club may operate a vehicle on site (excepting in Winter, then by special arrangement)
- Supervision is mandatory and always in attendance
Chipperfield Range:
- Operated by Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association
- Located just outside of Baldwins Gate village
- Four-range complex with a club house meeting space, accessed via a fixed ramp
- Single sex toilets and kitchen facilities
- Good carparking on gravel and grass areas
- Access to ranges is good with wide doors
- Shooting on A,B,C ranges is prone only due to range design limitations
- Shooting on D range can be standing, supported, sitting or prone
- Range is open every day but is conditional on multiple attendance
- Supervision is by arrangement
Bisley:
- The National Shooting Centre in Surrey
- Fully equipped for various disability needs
Other:
- Formal Club meetings are held in local social clubs with full facilities for disabled access
